About Us

Welcome to Montana Stinking Rose

What began 15 years ago as a simple backyard gardening experiment quickly blossomed into a lifelong passion. Founder Gae Bjorklund set out to master the art of growing garlic in the heart of Montana’s Gallatin Valley. After discovering which varieties thrived best in our crisp northern climate, that small trial plot naturally turned into a bumper crop—far more than one kitchen could ever use.

That happy surplus laid the foundation for Montana Stinking Rose.

Rooted in Quality, Grown for Everyone

Garlic loves a cold climate. Montana’s harsh winters and bright springs produce robust, flavorful crops—from vibrant Purple Stripes to towering Porcelain varieties that grow waist-high by early summer. Today, we carefully cultivate eight distinct varieties, harvesting thousands of pounds each July to supply local nurseries and home gardeners nationwide.

Whether you’re planting in northern soil or chilling your seed garlic for a southern garden, we provide premium, seed-grade garlic tailored to thrive in your plot.

More Than a Harvest

For us, garlic isn’t just a crop—it’s a community. Beyond supplying high-quality bulbs, we are dedicated to helping growers at every stage of their journey. We’re always here to share advice on planting schedules, harvesting scapes, and curing your crop for long-lasting flavor.

We love welcoming fellow garlic enthusiasts who stop by the farm during their travels to see where their food originates. Whether you are planting your very first clove or expanding a commercial patch, we’re honored to be a part of your garden.
