Welcome to Montana Stinking Rose!

Our small farm is family owned and operated, nestled in the Gallatin Valley under blue Montana skies and surrounded by the rugged Bridger, Gallatin, and Spanish Peak mountain ranges. All of our garlic is homegrown, handcrafted, and organically grown to ensure its market fresh quality. Our Ophio (a.k.a. hardneck) garlic flourishes in Montana’s fertile soil, cold winters and temperate summers and features a robust, savory flavor.

A little more about our gourmet garlic…

There a two types of garlic: hardneck and softneck.

Hardneck is the type of garlic we grow at Montana Stinking rose. It produces a stalk called a scape. The scapes can be harvested and are delicious.

Most hardneck garlic produces between six and ten easy peeling cloves. Experts agree hardneck or ophio garlic have more flavor than softneck garlic. The large cloves, half-wild flavor and easily removed cloves make hardneck garlic popular in gourmet restaurants.

The difference between seed and food grade garlic is the size. Seed garlic is the highest grade with the largest bulb size. Food grade garlic is smaller and perfect for preparing gourmet meals.

A little bit about our gourmet garlic…

Our gourmet garlic is like a bottle of great wine or fine chocolate.

We have seed grade & food grade quality garlic. Our current gourmet garlic varieties are:

RACAMBOLES
- Spanish Roja: A traditional garlic flavor that is great for every day.
- Sandpoint: Hardy garlic flavor, strong flavor but not too spicy.

PURPLE STRIPES
- Chesnok Red: One of the best roasting garlics.
- Metechi: Fiery little bulb wit high powered garlic flavor. Great with wild meats.
